Yahoo Messenger coming to iPhone and Android – offers multi-platform 3G video calls [UPDATE: Live now!]

Yahoo is coming big, and with an awesome feature for the iPhone, and the ever-growing Android market. Yahoo! announced their new feature which will impact several other providers for cross platform video chat on mobile devices – now on the iPhone as well.

Cross platform video calls over (3G along with reportedly Wi-Fi) with the Yahoo Messenger application allow you to take video calls with other devices that are presently using the Yahoo! Messenger application. Not cool enough? The application allows you to connect with others on webcam enabled computers, that just happened. This was originally confirmed for the just announced T-Mobile myTouch, and has been submitted to the App Store for review. (Now Live on the App Store – get it here)

Yahoo: “Yahoo’s mobile video calling technology will be more feature-rich and have a much larger reach than Apple’s. FaceTime works between iPhone 4 users only and limits support to calls over Wi-Fi to maintain video call quality.” – True that, as long as it promises to live up to working fluently and smoothly with what it offers.

This will be a competitor to some services already present, which will be the main attraction to see how Yahoo Messenger lives up; Qik and Fring should look out now!
