Sony officially announces Playstation Vita, $299 for 3G, $249 for WiFi

The Sony E3 2011 conference treated the PlayStation enthusiasts to bucket loads of new game announcements, gaming updates, add-on packages and beyond. However, the most intriguing is the final name and prices revealed to Sony’s new handheld, to be called PlayStation Vita. What was known as the ‘Next Generation Portable’ (NGP) Sony previously announced on focusing on stereoscopic 3D aspect of gaming. Sony has given fans the opportunity to preview the up and coming games using their newly developed 3D auto filtered glasses  and showcasing how the PlayStation Move has advanced over the last 6 months.

The first demo came with no surprise was the most anticipated game of 2011 Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception in 3D stole the show for many. There were so many other highlights from Sony’s E3 2011 conference, which kicked off with a medley of massive games on the big screens – including titles such as inFamous 2, Uncharted 3, Mortal Kombat and others before Sony’s Jack Tretton wandered on stage to start the proceedings.

Sony is releasing two models of the PlayStation Vita, which include a WiFi model and 3G model priced at $249 and $299 respectively.  Sony’s spokesperson Kaz Hirai stated that the 3G models for the US will be exclusively running on the AT&T mobile network and both models are due to ship worldwide towards the end of 2011. The most case scenario would leave us until November/December for the handheld, possibility making this gaming device the hottest property to hit the Christmas shelves since the Nintendo Wii.

Kaz Hirai also announced prices for the same price as the US and the japan are selling at 24,980 Yen and 29,980 Yen both WiFi and 3G models respectively. Check out the press release for more information after the break.
